"I was absolutely enthralled by this book (Science Was Wrong), and couldn't put it down. Brilliant research, brilliant writing." Thomas P. Warton, MD

  • UFO and Abduction Writer
  • Lecturer
  • Researcher
  • Senior Fellow of the Institute of Frontier Science
  • MUFON International Director of Field Investigator Training (Emeritus)

Scientific Ufologist Kathleen Marden is a UFO and alien abduction researcher, writer and lecturer. She is currently focusing upon the little known commonalities in alien technology observed by abductees on anomalous craft. She is working closely with several experiencers to discover the true alien agenda and has posted two surveys for abductees/experiencers on her website at www.kathleen-marden.com .

She is the niece of Betty and Barney Hill, the New Hampshire couple whose 1961 UFO experience stirred worldwide interest. A primary witness to the evidence of the UFO encounter and the aftermath, Kathy has intimate knowledge of the Hills' biographical histories, personalities, and never before published historical data pertaining to their sensational story. Twenty one years ago, she began a skeptical  investigation of the case and was surprised to find substantial evidence that suggests it was real. She is also the Trustee of their extensive archival collection.

Although many people associate her exclusively with the the Betty and Barney Hill  abduction, Kathy's interest in the many facets of UFO close encounters and alien abduction extends far beyond her aunt’s and uncle’s experience. She has studied many highly credible abduction evidence  cases and the purported psychological explanations for internally generated abduction experiences.

Kathy strongly believes that a complete investigation of the event should be undertaken before hypnosis is employed, if possible, for formal investigations. That said, it is clear to Kathy that much healing can be accomplished through regressive hypnosis, when abductees gain a better understanding of their own experiences. Unique commonalities can be discovered, and correlating evidence can be obtained in multiple witness abduction cases.

It has become increasingly clear to Kathy that some “alien abduction phenomena” reside outside, and cannot be entirely investigated or understood within western scientific paradigms. For example, most abductees report that they have been tranported though solid objects. The ETs communicate with them through telepathy, even though they are not telepathic in their daily lives. Many speak of harmonic vibrational frequencies. Some theoretical physicists are studying and attempting to understand the alien technology that seems like magic to us.

Whereas it would be easy to summarily dismiss these perplexing phenomena as being entirely psychologically generated, Kathy rejects this approach as unscientific and  biased.

She earned her B.A. in Social Work at the University of New Hampshire in 1971. Thereafter, she entered into graduate studies in Education at the University of Cincinnati, and later, U.N.H. She began her professional career as a social worker and eventually entered the field of education as a teacher. Later, she was promoted to a supervisory position, coordinating education programs and supervising education staff.

She left her job in 1990 to pursue a career as a UFO investigator, researcher and writer. She taught adult education classes on UFO and abduction history, and for 10 years volunteered as the Mutual UFO Network's Director of Field Investigator Training. In 2003, MUFON publicly recognized Kathy for her most outstanding contribution of advancing the scientific study of the UFO phenomenon by dedicating the annual MUFON International UFO Proceedings to her.

Kathy is currently a full time researcher, writer and lecturer. Her 2007 book Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience, with coauthor Stanton T. Friedman, is a case study of her aunt and uncle, Betty and Barney Hills' 1961 UFO close encounter and abduction. Her second book, Science Was Wrong (with Stan Friedman) discusses authoratative proclamations made by powerful scientists that were wrong. Her chapter on alien abductions appears in the new anthology UFOs and Aliens. She is pleased to announce that Captured! has been optioned for a motion picture. Individually, she has written numerous magazine articles and professional papers, and is working on a new book on newly investigated alien abductions and some very interesting findings.

Kathy has made numerous appearances on television shows and is available as an expert witness, researcher and consultant.  She is also a frequent guest on radio shows.

Kathy resides in Groveland, Florida and can be contacted at Kmarden@aol.com  Her mailing address is P.O. Box 120172, Clermont, FL 34712. Visit Kathy's website for additional information at www.kathleen-marden.com .

The Conundrum of Alien Abduction

In this new companion lecture to Science Was Wrong. Kathleen traces the history of academic funding for UFO research from the examination of physical evidence to the social/psychological study of UFO observers and self identified abductees. She presents an overview of the experimental studies designed to identify the cognitive processes that contribute to false memory formation in recovered memories of abduction and the surprising results. Sometimes experimenter bias has rendered subjective results, which in turn, skewed experimental findings.  These biased findings are often published in prestigious journals and are generally accepted by the uninformed scientific community. Proposals that challenge existing dogmas are likely to be rejected in favor of more orthodox studies. Therefore, almost no genuine scientific research into the alien abduction phenomenon has been conducted at major universities.

The Betty and Barney Hill Case: Setting the Record Straight

Debunkers have had a field day with the Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience, disseminating so much false and misleading information over the past 45 years that most people have difficulty differentiating fact from fiction in this first publicized UFO close encounter and alien abduction. In her totally new Powerpoint Presentation Kathleen Marden, their niece, takes on the pseudo-skeptics’ false claims and sets the record straight time and time again by presenting true verifiable evidence that proves the debunkers are wrong.

You Think You've Been Abducted? What to do.

Become informed! Thousands of average Americans suspect that they might have been abducted by aliens because their personal experiences are similar to those reported in UFO abduction literature. How can they know for sure and where can they turn for help? This presentation can assist in answering these questions by offering insight into a variety of human experiences, including  the contactee movement, alien abduction, multi-generational abduction, religious and spiritual experiences, and paranormal experiences. Kathy also offers a variety of psychological explanations that might account for some abductions and discusses the characteristics of hypnosis.

Alien Abduction 1950-Present: The Changing Scenario: In this new lecture, Kathleen presents the history of alien contact with humans from the 1950's “Contactee Movement”, to the emergence of alien abduction, to multi-generational serial abductions and beyond. She examines the evidence that suggests some abductions are real and discusses the great difficulty that this phenomenon presents to scientific investigation and evaluation, especially when the evidence is elusive. She will introduce to you some of her latest abduction cases and finding.

Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO—Is the true and accurate story of the Betty and Barney Hill UFO abduction. A primary witness to the evidence of the UFO encounter and its fascinating aftermath, Kathy (the Hills’ niece) has intimate knowledge of their biographical histories, personalities, and the historical data pertaining to their sensational story. The 1961 UFO abduction of Betty and Barney Hill stirred worldwide interest because it was the first reported case of alien abduction.  Although skeptics have attempted to refute the Hills’ abduction claim, (mostly through the dissemination of false and misleading information), no one has successfully done so. In her virtual reality slide show, you’ll meet the late Betty and Barney Hill and the major players in the UFO investigation.  You’ll view the Hill’s encounter route through New Hampshire’s White Mountains, learn about Kathy’s comparative analysis of the hypnosis transcripts and gain startling information about their captors’ physical and social characteristics. Further, you’ll view forensic paintings of the extraterrestrial beings who reportedly abducted them.   Additionally, you’ll examine the forensic and scientific evidence that it was a real event and listen to rare audio taped excerpts from the Hills’ hypnosis sessions with renowned psychiatrist Dr. Benjamin Simon.

Science is Often Wrong—The history of science and technology is rife with authoritative claims of impossibility by reputable scientists that have impeded progress. Sometimes highly regarded scientists have promoted political ideas that have led to human suffering. For example, Social Darwinism fueled the Eugenics movements in America and Germany and led to sterilization or execution of millions. The dark under-belly of corruption has reared its head in environmental science and pharmaceuticals, as well. Frontier sciences such as extra-terrestrial visitation and psychic phenomena have been targeted as “pseudosciences”, unworthy of serious investigation by main-stream science. Throughout history it has been difficult, if not impossible, to promote the acceptance of new discoveries. The reasons are multi-faceted but often involve arrogance and mountainous egos, politics and greed, and irrational resistance to change. One can only wonder how many groundbreaking discoveries have been suppressed by people whom we call the "impossibilists."
